HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP held on Wednesday the much-anticipated pressure test on the new pit cover Macondo, the Gulf of Mexico, where oil leaks for more than 80 days, said the chief U.S. official involved in the case .
Rear Admiral reserve Coast Guard Thad Allen said a more detailed analysis of the test and its possible ramifications instilled confidence that the activity will not exacerbate the problem.
"We will hold an order for BP to perform the integrity test the well, but we gave them some additional guidance. We did this to ensure they are taking due care (...), to make sure that we do not make any irreversible damage in hole of the pit. "
Earlier, Doug Suttle, chief operating BP exploration and production, told CNN that the company and scientists from the U.S. government decided late on Tuesday to postpone the test in 24 hours, fearing it would worsen the damage in the well and intensify leakage of gas and oil to the side.
The test, which will last 6-48 hours, requires the total cessation of the leak in order to evaluate the internal pressure. It is not known whether the blast pit on April 20, damaged his jacket, which would allow oil and gas to leak into soil.
Allen said on Wednesday that the seismic data collected on the day before "remove the possibility of a negative event" - the leakage of hydrocarbons by the seabed.
While the leak is not plugged, BP uses ducts to collect some of the material. Allen said this month fourth vessel will be mobilized to collect this oil. Even if the new cap containing the leak, the boats will be on hand to collect the material that may leak through the sides.
Nansen Saler, a former executive of Saudi Aramco, the world's oil, told Reuters on Wednesday that BP should drop test and continue collecting oil as a well is dug to help solve the problem once, which should only occur in mid-August.
"They already have a remedy relatively robust in operation. It is a safe option," he said.

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A BP realizará na quarta-feira o tão aguardado teste de pressão na nova tampa do poço Macondo, no golfo do México, de onde vaza petróleo há mais de 80 dias, disse a principal autoridade norte-americana envolvida no caso.
O contra-almirante da reserva da Guarda Costeira Thad Allen disse que uma análise mais detalhada do teste e das suas possíveis ramificações reforçou a confiança de que a atividade não irá agravar o problema.
"Vamos soltar uma ordem à BP para realizar o teste de integridade do poço, mas lhes demos algumas orientações adicionais. Fizemos isso para assegurar que eles estão tomando o devido cuidado (...), para assegurarmos de que não façamos qualquer dano irreversível no buraco do poço."
Horas antes, Doug Suttles, diretor-operacional da BP para exploração e produção, disse à CNN que a empresa e cientistas do governo dos EUA decidiram na tarde de terça-feira adiar o teste em 24 horas, temendo que ele agravasse o dano no poço e intensificasse o vazamento de gás e petróleo pelas laterais.
O teste, que vai durar de 6 a 48 horas, exige a interrupção total do vazamento, a fim de avaliar a pressão interna. Não se sabe se a explosão do poço em 20 de abril danificou o seu revestimento, o que permitiria que gás e petróleo vazem pelo solo.
Allen disse na quarta-feira que dados sísmicos coletados na véspera "removem a possibilidade de um evento negativo" - o vazamento dos hidrocarbonetos pelo leito marinho.
Enquanto o vazamento não é tampado, a BP usa dutos para recolher parte do material. Allen disse que ainda neste mês um quarto navio será mobilizado para coletar esse petróleo. Mesmo que a nova tampa contenha o vazamento, as embarcações ficarão a postos para recolher o material que eventualmente vaze pelas laterais.
Nansen Saleri, ex-executivo da empresa saudita Aramco, maior empresa mundial de petróleo, disse à Reuters na quarta-feira que a BP deveria desistir do teste e continuar coletando o petróleo enquanto é escavado um poço auxiliar que resolverá definitivamente o problema, o que só deve ocorrer em meados de agosto.
"Eles já têm um remédio relativamente robusto em operação. É uma opção segura", afirmou ele.
Kent Wells, vice-presidente da BP, dissera anteriormente que a escavação do poço auxiliar ficaria paralisada até o final do teste."
